Welcome
Hey there! I'm Alex Quizon.
I'm a marine geochemist & climate scientist in training, currently studying as a grad student at the University of Michigan.
I'm a marine geochemist & climate scientist in training, currently studying as a grad student at the University of Michigan.
I am currently studying as a PhD candidate and NSF research fellow in the University of Michigan's Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences. I am advised by Sierra Petersen and am working in the SCIPP Lab (Stable & Clumped Isotopes for Paleoclimate & Paleoceanography). My research interests are in the carbon cycle / carbonate chemistry and in investigating how we can use marine isotope geochemistry to study climate!
Previous education: I graduated from Williams College with a B.A. in Chemistry and a concentration (minor) in Maritime Studies, advised by Mea Cook in the Geosciences department. I am also a proud alumnus of the Williams-Mystic Maritime Studies program (S'19).
My career goal is to apply my geochemistry knowledge in order to help research and develop ‘blue carbon‘ climate solutions, or carbon capture / carbon dioxide removal (CDR) strategies more generally. My broader goals are to study the impacts of climate change at the societal (human) level and to promote accessibility of climate science education. After all, the climate crisis is an international humanitarian crisis, and one core principle from my educational upbringing is to serve as a ‘man for others’. Coming from a liberal arts background, I am interested in the interdisciplinary nature of climate advocacy within fields such as science, policy, literature, and the arts.
